REVIEW: ‘Marathon In Heels’

The Publics have a new single on the horizon, and it certainly delivers in true Lics style with an evolving sound. ‘Marathon In Heels’ will be released on Friday, February 25th and this will be the local indie rock band’s first single of 2022.

The sound is very Brit-Pop/Rock in its nature and essence, one to be played on repeat. With themes of regret and nostalgia, the anticipated riff – that has become an identifiable much-loved feature of the band’s appeal, promises to have everyone tearing up the dance floor in heels. So, bring your plasters! You might need them for your wounded hearts, as well as your sore feet.

The single was recorded in the band’s hometown of Mansfield at Electric Bear Studios using a mixing desk that was previously owned by the Rocket Man himself, Sir Elton John. The Publics are certainly off to a great start this year if ‘mixing’ with music icons that have withstood the test of time is anything to go by. You never know, we might still be walking (or in this case, dancing and singing) a marathon in heels 10-20 years down the line.

The band are improving in confidence and musical ability with every live performance, studio visit and passing year. The five-piece are in a strong and exciting position, with a contrasting range of vocals and instrumental capabilities. I can see big things for Mansfield’s rockers in 2022 and beyond…
