PUSHING BUTTONS: THE ALTERNATIVE SOUND OF RICKY

Ricky Boot is a local producer, who is self-releasing an EP on June 11th and is kindly offering 5 free digital downloads to anyone who follows him on Instagram and messages him with #MansfieldOnTheMap. Ricky will drop 5 of you a code, so you can have a listen to Pushing Buttons before its official release, and trust me it is well worth the listen!

Ricky is very much a product of the Mansfield music scene, his family used to run the Town Mill in Mansfield before the last big recession sadly resulted in its closure.

Ricky is a self-described alternative producer from Mansfield and has a diverse history within the music scene, both locally and internationally. I would happen to agree with that self-description too, as upon listening to his previous works, it was evident that the sound and vibe were unique and heavily inspired by multiple genres, eras, and content. Ricky’s band Battlecat! played alongside and supported Hadouken, Two Door Cinema Club, Future Islands, and Hearts Revolution to all but name a few. Ricky has played in various venues and has an extensive musical background.

The Mansfield-born producer is back after a prolonged hiatus, and has returned to the music scene and picked up writing and producing yet again. The soon-to-be-released EP is called Pushing Buttons and draws influence from the likes of Burial, Bicep, early Prodigy, Boards of Canada, and The XX. As you can see, Ricky is inspired by a wide range of music and brings those influences to the forefront in the upcoming EP. This is just another example of how talented and diverse the Mansfield music scene is, as I connect with more local creatives and listen to their work.

Ricky’s first stand-alone single ‘Let Me In’ which can be streamed on Spotify here, was plugged by Dean Jackson of BBC INTRODUCING and had limited airtime, with some solid industry feedback. It was also featured on Notts TV. Following this success, Ricky was inspired to work on his 7 track EP which was all produced in his spare room, turned home studio. As well as working on his debut EP, Ricky shared that he is writing music for an indie game called ‘Blast all Bots’ which will be released later this year.

Pushing Buttons features an exciting collaboration with American Rapper ‘Plaedo’ from Oregan. The Mansfield musician cannot wait for you all to hear it.

It is a pleasure to plug this EP on Mansfield On The Map, as the blog is all about supporting local creatives within the community, as I hope to use this platform to shine light onto the positive and uplifting work that is happening where we live, whether that be community work, small businesses or artistic endeavours… It is all vital coverage, which needs to be shared and put out there into the local sphere and wider universe. Now, the only button that you need to press is FOLLOW on Ricky’s socials.
