Preserving the past, for the future.

The Nottinghamshire Mining Museum is a registered charity and museum, at the heart of Mansfield Town, straight off the train and a short walk away from the bus station. Super accessible and well worth the visit!

The museum is located at the:

East Unit, Mansfield Railway Station Station Road
Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
NG18 1LP

The museum archives our local, mining history, with the simple aim to preserve the past, for the future. As the museum is located at the railway station, it serves as an accessible location for both residents and passing visitors.

The site includes literary resources, artefacts, yearly exhibitions, and a small selection of products for sale, to commemorate one’s visit to the site. The team is made up of Ex and Retired Miners, and individuals with mining links or lineage. All team members volunteer their time and skills to ensure that the Museum adheres to its aims, in line with charity and museum regulations. Volunteers work all year round to produce quality exhibitions, educational talks, and community events where first-hand accounts, educational insight, and information on Nottinghamshire’s mining roots are shared with visitors, residents, and children. The team did visit Nottingham-based schools before the covid pandemic hit.

You can read more about the museum’s educational sector, through their April education blogs, which can be found on their website and social media.

The team, on a visit to a local Mansfield school.

It is incredibly heart-warming to see just how dedicated and passionate the team is, as, on a personal note, I have been volunteering for the museum a little here and there, so I have witnessed first-hand how committed and hard-working they are. Considering the recent pandemic and museum closures, the team has taken a strong online presence, continuing to deliver engaging and informative content on their website and social media accounts.
