Cakefield Cakes Tea Room: A Platter of Pleasley

I was kindly invited down to Gemma’s lovely tea room, which resides within the heart of Pleasley and is located by a calming scenic view of the waterfront as passing ducks, swans, and geese swim by… Sitting outside felt like having a front-row seat to a nature reserve. It certainly enhances its location and adds to the peaceful atmosphere. The first feature of the tea room which I was drawn to was the quirky and homely interior as we made our presence known and were kindly seated at our table. It is certainly accurate to say that the tea room possesses a whimsical feel. Beatrix Potter meets Alice in Wonderland, that sort of vibe. I love it.

Joined by friends, on our afternoon trip to Pleasley.

My friend and I were seated in the new secret garden, which complements the lively interior with playful decor that instantly puts you at ease, providing a bit of privacy away from the road, with a green view of the water’s edge. There is a lot of detail within the design of the garden and that kept us occupied for a short time, as we were swiftly served with drinks, in readiness for our afternoon tea coming out. Gemma and the staff are extremely friendly, and the warm service adds to the homely feel of the visit, in decor and delivery, instantly making you feel welcome and ready to return, despite having only just arrived.

Lovely sign, in the secret garden.

The afternoon tea provides a platter that goes above and beyond, with its content and accommodation for all. The tea room offers child-size afternoon tea options, as well as a selective option for those that perhaps do not eat as much or would prefer specific items. The secret garden also contains a lovely doggy bar for furry friends, with water, dog bowls, and treats to offer pups something special too as you indulge in your human goodies.

We made a new friend! A sweet, chocolate baby enjoying her treats.

The amazing doggy bar, in the secret garden.

Our afternoon tea was brought out promptly and there was certainly a generous amount of food displayed. Very exciting! The platter consisted of plenty of sandwiches for two, a pot of salad and crisps, as well as a traditional scone with cream and jam, accompanied by mousse and cake. It is the perfect combination of savory and sweet.  It is only £14.95 per person, for all of this pictured below, including a slice of cake each which had to be wrapped up for later as we were well and truly stuffed, but in the best possible way. Along with this, you are provided with a carafe or teapot (depending on your drink of choice), but there is also an option to have a soft drink if tea and coffee are not your thing. You can get multiple drinks from your carafe or teapot… So, as you can see, it is very accommodating to your requirements at no extra cost.

Our lovely spread!

As I am massively fond of my savory foods… I was very impressed with the filling of the sandwiches, which are homemade and generously sandwiched together. As you can see in the picture. A mixture of bread and fillings.

In love with these sandwiches!

I feel like the pictures speak for themselves and capture the beauty of the place, and demonstrate just how generous and well prepared the afternoon tea is. I recommend it to anyone who fancies a couple of hours away as it is super local and accessible, whether you plan to bring friends, older relatives, children, or even your fur babies… There is something for everyone here. Even a licensed bar, offering a selection of alcoholic beverages!

The tea room certainly offers a Platter of Pleasley, and a waterfront Wonderland right on our doorstep. I will definitely be visiting again.
